Any off-roader will testify that driving in the desert is far from easy sailing. Even the most experienced highway driver is often overwhelmed by the travails of desert driving, and can be completely clueless when it comes to negotiating the treacherous curve of a sand dune.
This is why Emirates Driving Institute have fine-tuned and perfected the all new Desert Driving Course, created especially for those adventure-seeking Nabbers who want to learn to bash and ride in the desert.
Surfing the sand dunes
All classes are held at the head office of Emirates Driving Institute in Al Qusais and Nabbers should be there at 8:45am. In a theater style hall, an experienced instructor will begin a theory based workshop where basic 4x4 understanding and a range of training topics are outlined, as well as tips on desert driving. Attendees will then drive to the desert (45 minutes away from the institute) and will do a series of grueling practical exercises under the guidance of the friendly qualified instructors. They will get the vehicle stuck in the sand and teach you how to dig yourself out. You'll learn to race to the top of a dune and slide down smoothly and zig zag around. Then back to the institute by 4pm. To keep the course objectives and tips fresh in your memory, each Nabber will receive a Desert Driving Course kit, a comprehensive 116 page Desert Driving manual and a Certificate of Attendance to hang on your wall, next to your diving, sky diving and pie eating certificates.
The course is offered every day except Thursdays and advanced booking is required. You can even invite a non-driving friend to tag along for an additional cost of AED 50.
